This is part 4 of the series "Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence..." If you haven't read the preceeding articles, now is your que. We've spoken of self-image, visualizations, and created the base of a new set of habits. By now you are aware of the three factors in the formula: beliefs, habits, and environment. Remember that because we are changing the beliefs you hold of yourself, we can't rely on that factor, but have to play with the other two. We've already juiced the habits. Now, we must look at environment.

Recall that the achievement of your goal is simply an end result of a certain beliefs and habits, and that your immediate environment is the container wherein these beliefs and habits are held. Your immediate environment is what supports your beliefs and habits...which ultimately becomes the achievement of your goal. The problem with most who attempt to change, is that their environment, the container, is not constructed in a way to be able to support their goal.

It is because of this that people give up. It's not that they're necessarily unwilling, but unprepared. Did you ever notice how you may go to a seminar, listen to a motivational speaker, read a good book, etc. and be totally convinced that you not only can, but WILL change? And then you leave and within a few hours, the motivational effect dies? It's because your environment does not support the goal that you have in mind to achieve. It doesn't support what you heard. So your objective is to change your environment to what will serve you.

Your immediate environment is the books/articles that you read, the music you listen to, the shows you watch, the people you spend time with. The last one is probably the most important one, but the other ones play an incredible role as well. Scientists say that we're the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. Your first job is to take some time and find people that have characteristics like those that you want, and then start surrounding yourself with them. Surround yourself with people that do not give up...people that are achievers. Read stories of people who did not give up. Don't watch shows that have negative things in them. IT WILL REFLECT IN YOUR LIFE!!

Start looking up videos of people who have come from the bottom to the top, because they didn't give up. Do whatever it takes to throw off any negative influence that is coming your way. Don't tell people who don't believe in you or your efforts. It's that simple. Just don't tell them.

You must start taking action in the direction that you intend to end up. If you want to be confident in meeting people, start being the one to approach them. Pretend until you have enough to really do it. Pretend a lot. It won't happen on its own.

Remember this: You can't drive into your future by looking in your rear-view mirror. You'll crash no matter how smart you are. And one more thing: Once you have master the ability to overturn you OWN negative influence on yourself, you have then mastered success...and any achievement. This means, when you are feeling down, in THAT moment, jerk your self out of it by reflecting on a positive influence by reflecting on your goal.

To your success,

Dennis Andrew
