subject: The 5 Best Exercises You Never Even Thought About To Get Flat Abs [print this page]

The five best exercises to get flat abs are not sit ups or crunches. They are not the elliptical or stairmaster. Why? Because you have actually already got flat abs, they just need to be revealed from behind a layer of body fat and toned up. How do you do this? By increasing your metabolism to burn away the body fat down to a level that your abs can be seen. This is under 10% for men and under 16% for women.

So, what are the 5 best exercises to increase my metabolism reduce my overall body fat percentage and tone my midsection? Well, two of them have been hiding right under your nose. They are the Dead lift and Squats.

Confused? Well, here is the story. All of these exercises are what are known as compound exercises. These exercises work multiple muscle groups at the same time which has the effect of increasing your resting rate of metabolism so that you are burning more calories during the day. They also serve to strengthen your core or torso muscles in general meaning your back and that thing on the other side of your back, your abs. Oh, I forgot to mention that the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn throughout the day. The more fat you burn throughout the day, the sooner the flat abs that you already have will be revealed to the world!

The next 3 exercises you may not even know exist because they require a little know device called a kettlebell. This is a Russian piece of equipment that looks like a cannonball and has a handle on it. Because of this design it is ideal for swinging and can actually target the muscles of your core whereas barbells and dumbbells can only work your core inadvertently.

The first exercise I would like to introduce you to is the kettlebell swing. Standing up, simply swing a KB with one hand or two between your legs thrusting out with your hips. This may sound simple, and it is, but you will feel it in your back and your abs.

The nice thing about KBs is that there is an added cardiovascular element that is unavailable with barbells. Consequently, KBs allow you to burn as much as 20 calories a minute as well as increasing your metabolism throughout the day. So they really help to reduce your overall body fat percentage.

The last of the 5 best exercises to get flat abs are the figure 8 and the renegade row.

To do the figure 8 simply pass the KB between your legs from one hand to another lifting it up to your chest as you do. This will really work your obliques.

Though the renegade row may seem like a back workout it really works the abs. If you have ever tried it with dumbbells you will be surprised how much harder it is with KBs.
