subject: Let's Discover Some Window Cleaners [print this page]

Although cleaning windows is not rocket science, it can sometimes seem like a daunting task. In fact, it is a chore that most homeowners dread, and for good reason. Getting a streak free shine on a window can be an elusive process. Finding the best window cleaners and getting the job done right in the quickest amount of time can take some of the drudgery out of the chore.

Most chemical window cleaners contain the ingredient ammonia to provide a streak free shine. All glass cleaners promise to give a crystal clear shine to windows and other shiny surfaces. Some advertise that they are a multi purpose cleaner that not only does windows; it can clean surfaces all around the house.

Products that are eco-friendly are very popular. Using natural ingredients instead of harsh chemicals is something that is very important to people. Many times these products are fragrance free and use natural substances. Of course, using a combination of vinegar and water is an option, and an inexpensive one at that!

Another important consideration that people often wonder about is what type of material to use. Some people like to use paper towels, and using a high quality, absorbent paper towel will often garner better results than using a thinner, low quality one. Still, other window cleaners like to actually use newspaper.

The material used to clean the windows can make a big different in the results. For instance, paper towels can often leave little fibers on the glass. When you want a truly streak free shine, try using coffee filters or newspapers.

The method that the window is cleaned is almost as important as the product used. Many use a circular motion, but it suggested that you wipe from side to side, around the edge, then wipe vertical. When you do this, you can tell where the streaks are so you can get them before you leave that window.
