subject: How To Learn Speed Reading- Points To Remember [print this page]

There is no precise way to learn speed reading because all of us function differently which is why there is an overwhelming number of courses available out there. That being said, there are some lucky ones who don"t need such lessons at all and if they are asked how they do it, they don"t have an answer for you. The rest of us may want to learn speed reading but don"t know how to go about it and because it is supposed to be an aptitude that comes naturally to all of us, we tend to get embarrassed when we realize we need help, of sorts.

As has already been mentioned, a majority of us read slowly so really, you have nothing to be self-conscious about. On the contrary, you should accept it and try to find a solution for the problem. Once that is done, you will realize that with a little bit of effort and practice, you can learn speed reading in no time!

The basic foundation on which the technique of speed reading is built is understandable only through such difficulties that people may have in this respect. Some of them and their solutions are mentioned below-

1- If you don"t read very often, you will move slowly through the book once you do pick it up. Therefore, if you want to learn speed reading, the solution can be as simple as reading more often.

2- If you find it difficult to concentrate on one thing at a time, you will keep reading the same sentence over and over again and hence, bring down your reading speed slowly but surely. In this case, it will help if you move your reading spot to a quieter room or use headphones as you read.

3- Some of us have pre-conceived notions about certain books and convince ourselves that we won"t be able to understand it, even before we open the first page. This fear can reduce your reading speed as well so what you need to do is read the summary behind the book as often as you need and if that doesn"t help, some reviews on the internet surely will.

4- You may not have noticed it but most of us go through each word in our heads as we read. In other words, we think as we read which means that if you think slowly, you will read slowly as well! If you can try and leave this habit behind, your brain will take over and allow you to comprehend the text at a much faster rate.

5- Another reason for a slow reading speed is that some of us keep reading paragraphs and sentences over and over again and the worst part is that we don"t even realize it! This habit can be unlearned by using placards to cover the parts that you have already read.

Last but not the least, the easiest way to learn speed reading is to start with reading such books that have larger fonts.

Thanks for reading!
