Effective business socialising is a learned skill; it's also an essential career success strategy. My articles Business Socialising Success and Five Top Tips for Business Socialising Success will help you optimise every social situation so you can enjoy the vast business and personal benefits they can bring. There are more free resources at my website http://www.dianacarroll.com for you to enjoy. This article is based on my popular DVD The Responsible Guide Series: Business Socialising available at http://www.dianacarroll.com Use these communication insights to enahnce your business socialising skills.

Listen More You'll never learn more by talking more. Rememberto ask, listen and respond. Use active listening to show your interest in what the other person is saying. Aim to build real rapport not just engage in a passing conversation.

Build Relationships - Time is limited, life is short! Build relationships by offering something of value and being a "giver" not a "taker". We all have something to give contacts, advice, information, friendship, support. Get to know people, turn contacts into clients, and strangers into friends.

Be Charming - Good manners always open doors. RSVP promptly; remember to thank the host; and be sure to follow-up if you say you will. Real charm is about making the other person feel good through your consideration and courtesy.Always be inclusive in your language and generous in your conversation.

Be an Ambassador Remember you are representing your company not just yourself. Dress appropriately; behave properly; leave on time. Don't be the first to arrive or the last to leave. Never drink too much; say too much; or laugh too much.

Thank You & Goodnight - Know when to leave a person, a group, a function. You can't meet more people talking to the same people. Say something simple like: It's been lovely talking with you; enjoy the rest of the evening' as you shake hands and move on.You're there to talk, not stalk!
