subject: Improving Organizational Effectiveness [print this page]

No person or business can be considered perfect and so every business and organization can profit from an improvement in their organizational effectiveness. Improving organisational effectiveness comprises a number of elements: -

Team development which includes the design and planning, as well as the dynamics of the team. Each person in the team should know their specific role and be able to clarify it in easy to understand terms. They should have skills such as problem solving and good communication with other team members.

There should be conflict management and resolution. Used properly, certain types of conflict can spur innovation and productivity. Non- productive conflict should be identified and resolved and strategies for transformation put into place. Mediation should be used to remove any barriers to productivity.

Process consultation should be used to identify the effect of team dynamics on the productivity of the group or team as a whole and ensure that improvement is ongoing.

Meeting design. Meetings are often known to be boring, long and unproductive due to too much repetition and often, argument. Instead, participation, collaboration, and a cross-functional workflow should be encouraged.

No matter what the problems are that cause or contribute to inefficiency, most can be addressed by proper organizational effectiveness and executive coaching. Problem solving skills are skills that can easily be learned and the increase in organizational effectiveness will be easily seen once such skills have been put into place.

Leaders will learn how to develop a mission or vision for each project and create a plan of management that is easily understood and maintains a focussed sense of purpose. Employees will feel valued and be encouraged to learn new ways of dealing with team dynamics to prevent unproductive dissension and be proud of the fact that they can stay ahead of the competition by using their skills to good effect.
