subject: The Best Fast Parcel Delivery Providers Do The Job For Their Clients - Responsibly [print this page]

In many parts of the commercial world, life in the 1980s was very much about looking after number one. Three decades later, there are still businesses which have made their way by giving 100 per cent effort, and expecting the same of everyone else, all of the time.

But when a business is involved in offering a service such as express parcel delivery, which can be so safety-critical, its essential that, rather than put itself first, it keeps its clients at the forefront of everything it does. Of course, everybody wants their parcel deliveries carried out as quickly as possible. But this has to be achieved within the prevailing laws, and without putting sorters, loaders, drivers or anyone else involved in the operation, or who may, wittingly or not, come into contact with it, at undue risk.

The penalties for not doing so can be severe. Health and safety rules and the laws of the road both place ultimate responsibility for the safety of drivers and their cargoes with those very drivers, and the courier companies for whom they work. So while an urgent delivery will be passed through the system as quickly as possible, there are strict limits which govern how soon that consignment can reach its destination.

Satellite technology is a great help when deciding just where those limits lie. Route planning software usually offers a good indication of the likely amount of time any given journey will take, but this assumes optimum traffic and weather conditions. The key, therefore, to offering an effective fast parcel delivery service is to strike that fine balance between taking on enough work to make it viable, and then having the right number of drivers and vehicles on hand to actually deliver the service which customers are expecting.

Each one of those customers will expect a certain level of service from their express delivery supplier, but the onus initially lies with that supplier to ensure that the resources available match the demand for the service being offered, and are sufficient to ensure that it is delivered, not just most of the time, but all of the time.

A quality courier company will put ensuring its staffs safety right at the top of its priority list, because without those staff, the chances are that its promises will be just like the fuel tank of a van which has been charging around all day making deliveries without stopping empty.
