New Delhi: IIMT is one of the fastest growing institutions of higher learning in India. The long term objective of the institute is to provide internationally recognised undergraduate and post-graduate programmes of study in areas like business management, hospitality and tourism management.

The BBA (Hons) in Business Management offered at IIMT's School of Management and Entreprenuership is in collaboration with Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK. This is a terminal degree programme, which means after completing the programme, one has the options of pursuing an MBA programme or go for a job. The BBA programme on the other hand is internationally recognised.

If one is looking for admission to an American MBA programme then one would an edge as one is equipped with 16 years of basic education. According to IIMT director, Kamlesh Misra, "The BBA programme at IIMT is designed for those who wish to pursue an academic career which can translate into a higher degree after graduation or into a work placement. In either case our programme provides you with the tools and the skills necessary for success in the business world. As we prepare students for a professional career, the stress is on the importance of internship as a crucial part of education."

Citing the difference between IIMT and other management institutes, Misra says, "Firstly, we have an outstanding faculty. And secondly, the relatively small size of the programme allows close contact between the faculty and students. The faculty enjoys the challenge presented by students to keep in touch with the latest developments in their fields. A third factor is the high calibre of their fellow students and how much they learn from one another. We encourage a supportive learning environment."

Expresses Dr Vinnie Jauhari, Head of School on choosing Oxford Brookes as a partner, "The reason for selecting the university are based on rating, results and reputation. The university's well established quality assurance processes ensure that standards are consistently maintained not only in its own courses, but also in those delivered by other institutions through collaborations. The university enjoys an international reputation for innovation and high quality in education and research. The quality assurance award of 24 points out of 24 for business and economics teaching confirms the same."

The BBA programme offers internship in the third year. Some of the best known companies that have taken IIMT graduates as interns are Ford, PWC, A Lima, BIS, Refline, Lee Cooper and Gujarat Ambuja Eastern Ltd. The international job assignment that students have got are of the calibre that employees normally get at a mind stage in their career. All the internships abroad are paid internships.

These assignments not only give the students on the job training but also give them international exposure enabling them to gain a wider and a richer perspective of the business.

IIMT also offers a 4 year BSc (Hons) programme in Hotel and Restaurant Management at its School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM). SHTM has been established in academic partnership with the department of Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Management, Oxford Brookes University, UK. The primary aim of SHTM is to provide its students with the skills, knowledge and understanding for a career in the international hospitality and tourism industry.

The degree programme not only provides the necessary technical skills but the complete range of managerial skills both at conceptual and at an operational levels. Adds Dr Misra, "Given the size and rapid growth of the Hospitality Information Technology and the business sector in India, we feel that this is an opportune time for those who want to make a career in these sectors to equip themselves with the necessary skills, knowledge and an internationally recognised qualification."

This degree programme is designed to develop effective and innovative managers for the international hotel and restaurant industry of tomorrow. It offers flexibility and choice to individual students and at the same time ensures a vocationally relevant and academically rigorous program of study. It provides the technical and managerial skills and knowledge necessary to secure appropriate employment on graduation. The terminal qualification is a B.Sc Honours Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the Oxford Brookes University.

Every student undergoes a two semester (one year) internship in a reputed hospitality organisation. IIMT arranges SWE positions for all qualifying students of B.Sc (Hons) in Hotel and Restaurant Management Programme, in organisations in India and abroad.

The selection of students for each and every SWE placement, whether in India or abroad, is at the discretion of IIMT and the organisation concerned. IIMT and Oxford Brookes University reserve all rights for any decision in this connection.
