subject: Tips on Choosing an Eye-Catching Article Title [print this page]

Your article title determines the success of your article marketing efforts. The reason why I say so is because it is the first point of contact between you, as the author, and your targeted readers. From the title, they will determine whether or not to click on it to read the entire article in detail or to move on to the next one. Therefore, it is vital to make sure that your article title is not only eye-catching, but also interesting enough such that your readers will want to read on.

In order to get the best results for your article marketing efforts, the title of your article must not only be eye-catching enough (such that when someone sees the title, he/she will want to click on it to read on).

Besides that, it must also be "Search Engine Optimized" - in that the article should contain the primary key phrase that you are intending to get ranked well for. This is so as to allow your article to be ranked well in the search engine listings (preferably in the top 10 positions so that it gets maximum visiblity and if your title is catchy enough, it will receive the maximum amount of clicks).

In the next few sections, I will be sharing with you some tips on how you to have an article title that is not only eye-catchy, but also one that will allow your article to be ranked well in the search engine listings.

1. Have A Natural Looking Article

Let me explain this point to you with an example - You would like to write an article to share 5 tips you have on how to get rid of acnes the natural way (and the tips that you are going to share is so effective such that they could see results within 24 hours).

In terms of optimizing your article for a particular key phrase, you have decided to optimize it for the key phrase "get rid of acne".

So, instead of just simply titling your article as "get rid of acne" (which is not very eye-catchy enough to be honest), you can provide a little bit more details about what the entire article is about in the title, such as:

5 Sure-Fire Tips To Get Rid Of Acne

5 Ways To Get Rid Of Acne In 24 Hours

Want To Get Rid Of Acne In 24 Hours?

The titles above are more likely to catch your potential readers' attention compared to just titling it simply as the key phrase that you are intending to get ranked in the Search Engines for.

2. Choosing Keyphrases With Low Competition

When it comes to getting your articles ranked well in the search engine listings, you need to optimize it with keyphrases with low competition level.

For example, if you would like to write an article to share with fellow golfers on how to perfect their golf swing, you wouldn't want to optimize it for the key phrase "golf swing", as there is just way too much competition for this particular key phrase (there are 2,350,000 websites that are competiting to get ranked well for this keyphrase).

What you should do is to make use of the free keyword research tools (such as the Google Adwords Keyword Research Tool), look for other key phrases related to the key phrase "golf swing" and try optimizing your article for other key phrases with lesser competition.

How you can determine the number of competing websites is this - After you have identified a key phrase, all you need to do is to go to the Google search engine and type in the keyphrase that between inverted commas, such as "golf swing for beginners" and the number that you see immediately below the keyphrase in the results page is the number of competing websites.

I have done a search myself and come out with the following keyphrases (with the number of competitio that you can optimize your articles for (as they have a much lower competition level):

perfect golf swing (147,000)

golf swing tips (133,000)

golf swing instruction (48,200)

The above are 2 simple tips on how you can choose an eye-catching article title. Do you have any other suggestions, or any tips to share? Please feel free to write them in the comments section below...
