subject: Finding A Local Dance Class [print this page]

Dance is an ancient and beautiful art form; it has been around for many centuries and has been used as a form of communication as well as for entertainment and love. More often than not, the dance will be set to music and with each different type of music or beat will come a different style of dance. There are a great many styles and techniques to learn including; jazz to hip - hop, ballet to contemporary, soul to salsa and the list goes on.

The great thing about dance is that it is so versatile and free that anyone at any time can perform it just about anywhere! So if you want to learn a few moves then a good place to start is with your own music collection. Try and find some tracks that have a real rhythm to them and then attempt to follow that rhythm with your body, this in essence is dancing.

Dance gives you as an individual the chance to explore your creative side and to be free away from the constraints and rules of sporting activities. You will find that the chance to be creative with your body is a truly liberating experience and where as in sport your body is used functionally, dance allows you to express through movement and music. It allows you to express your feelings, to make a statement of intent or even show someone how much you feel for the music.

So, how do you get involved with a local dance school or group? Well it is easy and you will find that there are an abundance of options right on your doorstep. So start by looking online and do a search for dance classes in your local area, join a group or pop down to your local leisure centre/gym and see if anyone is advertising dance classes that you can fit into your schedule.

When the time comes to attend the class it is important that you have a good pair of dance sneakers so that you can perform to the best of your ability. There is no point showing up in a rubbish old pair of trainers that provide no support or grip. If you do, you will be sure to learn the hard way and your aching feet will remind you!

Getting hold of a good pair of dance sneakers is very easy all it takes is a little research. You will find that if you ask the dance teacher or some of the other students then they will be more than happy to help or at least point you in the right direction of a good dance sneaker supplier. Check out the different brands online and compare the prices that the different websites advertise at, make sure that you take a note of the different prices of the dance sneakers that you like. Then you can head into town and try on a few pairs before making the final decision. If you find that the dance sneakers are better value online then get yourself fitted first then order them online.
