subject: Facebook Marketing - List Building For Free - Part 1 [print this page] Using Facebook as a marketing tool is definitely a must in this day and age and using it for free list building is even more of a must. Facebook and the way its set up allows you to really create a targeted marketing campaign for literally any product in any area and all for free. You are able to access so much information about your future customers that it really does give you an unfair advantage.
Step 1 The Basic Idea
The idea here is to start building a list of targeted friends through Facebook (these are not friends you know) using the search box to find relevant groups that will be interested in what you do or sell.
Over a short period of time and using the methods I am going to share with you here, you can build a highly targeted list of people who are hungry for your products, services or information but at the same time very happy to be part of all this. We are going to make money and be nice at the same time, now there is a novelty!
NB: like anything you you need to be consistent with this to see results and you need to stay within Facebook policy otherwise there shut you down with no problem.
So What Do We Do.
Ok first thing to do here is obviously to understand your target market, to know who they are and where they will be hiding. If we use me as an example. I am an internet marketer and I teach people how to make a living online. Therefore my target market can come from quite a few areas.
They can be people looking to start a business, looking for extra income, stay at home mums, people sick of the 9-5, retired folks, people living abroad who can't find local work. The list goes on, its just a case of identifying your target market to find out where they might be.
Now with this information at hand, what we do is we go searching for these relevant groups that are already on Facebook and let me tell you there are thousands of them literally bulging with people who are interested in all sorts of subjects.
To find them you simple type the target group your looking for into the FB search box, then you pick the most appropriate match.
EG: There are some groups devoted to starting business in the UK which is perfect for what I am looking for. So we go to this group and simply see who their members are which will find on the left hand side of the page. It might also say "people who like this" rather than members but its all the same, they all like that subject.
At this point its up to you if you want to join the group. I do sometimes depending on whether I want to start leaving messages there which is a whole another topic that you can find out more about on my blog.
So just locate the members and click on a face and then on the next page at the top click on "add as a friend" Sometimes this wont be there as they don't always want any friend requests which is fine just go back and click on someone else if this is the case.
Please Take Note
Now the important bit, you must leave them a message, Its vital if your ever going to build your lists that you leave a message. I see so many times where people just click on " send request " but never leave a message. You are a stranger to them, why should they want to know you, what is in it for them.
A Good Message
Write a friendly and welcoming message rather than a blatant sales pitch. Make it friendly for now because later on you can pitch them. Messages I normally write go something like this
" Hello (first name) I see we are both fans of the Facebook group (group or page name here) This is something I have been interested in for a long time now. I would love to share knowledge with you on this subject. Can we be FB friends, thanks, Nick"
This a nice and friendly approach thats not going to scare anyone, nothing being sold here, all we are doing is asking them to be are friend and nothing more.
Be Aware
Now you wont get everyone clicking the accept button in fact if you get a conversion rate of 50% then that's a good return. The key here is to be consistent. Aim to target around 30 people a day. I do know people who do more than this but I try not to go over 30 mainly for 2 reasons.
1- Facebook have a daily limit on how many friend requests you can send out in 1 day. The actual limit is a bit vague. Some say its 40, some say 50 and some 100 but I stick to 30 to be on the safe side. As you go on you will start to receive requests from others wanting you to be their friend so this will bump up your daily amount as well.
2- The second reason I stick to 30 is because it can get so boring sending out friend requests. Anymore then 30 and I would just loose interest but that just me, you may want to keep going. I'm trying to keep it real here folks, perhaps you will love it but the main thing is to set a daily target and keep to that until your getting the results you want.
Your Facebook Profile
Now lets just track back a little here. Before we start sending out requests we want to make sure that our profile page is looking good because some people, not all, will want to check you out before they accept your request. So make sure you have in place,
-A nice photo of you and not some cartoon character or a picture of your pet or one of you in a club drunk, I think you get the idea.
-Lots of information about your likes, hobbies, location etc. Make it so they can get a feel for you and see what your about.
-Put a little message under your photo about what you do business wise and what you can do for them.
-Put a business link in the information box on the left of the page, a website or blog link but don't put loads there, keep it simple and clean.
-Just follow these few rules regarding your profile page and you should have no problem attracting the right type of peopl
