subject: Top Secret Core Exercise For Males [print this page] OK guys you want to hear some of my favorite core exercises? Well get up off the floor out of the sit up or crunch position because none of them have anything to do with lying on the floor. In fact, you may even think that they do not have anything to do with strengthening your core. But, you are wrong.
Before I tell you my fave ways to build the core let us have a brief discussion on gym philosophy. It seems that most people go to the gym are concerned about building big arms and legs and completely over look the core except for some occasional sit ups. Guys like to isolate muscles and do exercises like curls to achieve the results they want. However, the body was not designed to use individual muscles separately. It was designed to use muscle groups in combination with each other. And this is the key.
To build your core you are going to do compound exercises that work multiple muscle groups at the same time. For example, the clean and jerk works your legs, arms and shoulders however it also works your back and abs because they must be used in support of the other motions.
The best core building exercises using a barbell are the fundamental lifts that people have done since the beginning. The squat, the dead lift, lunges, bench press, clean and jerk, military press and others. If you do these exercises on a regular basis you will see your strength improving because your core is getting stronger and your core is the source of your strength.
Hey, you promised me some top secret exercises, you are probably saying right now. OK, here it is. It is called the swing but you do not use a barbell or a dumbbell. You use a kettlebell. Oh, do not know what a kettlebell is? It looks like a cannonball with a handle and because of its design is ideal for swinging.
Simply take a 35pound or 55 pound kettlebell in one hand or two and swing it between your legs, thrusting out with your hips. Now, you may not think that this will not do anything but you are wrong. This simple action works your back, abs and hips like no other exercise. It will also leave you pretty darn winded in only a few swing. And, perhaps most importantly, it will burn as many as 20 calories a minute. Try it, you will see.
