subject: Using Shampoo And Conditioner [print this page]

Before washing you hair with a shampoo you would have to determine which category your hair comes under - such as dry, fine, normal, oily or color treated. Categorizing would help you in deciding the shampoo and conditioner that would be the most appropriate to your hair type. For shampooing you would have to wet your hair using water that is not too hot as hot water would make your hair dry and brittle. Depending on the length of your hair you could take some amount of shampoo into your palm and lather it. Then apply it to your hair. It could be massaged to the scalp region of your hair with your fingers so that your scalp would get cleaned. You could rinse your hair with cold water. If you consider that there is still some amount of dirt left in your hair you can apply the shampoo in the same way.

Do you know why a conditioner is used after shampooing? If you go for only shampooing, that would tend to become dry and brittle just because shampoo cleans your hair from all the dirt and oil. By applying conditioner it would lock moisture so that your hair would not get easily damaged and it gets a smooth and shiny look along with a soft texture. Most of the people are unaware of the fact that conditioners should not be applied to the scalp as your scalp would get oily very quickly. The conditioner is to be applied only to your hair and should not be massaged. Your hair would look smoother if you keep the conditioner on your hair for some time. You could rinse your hair with cool water.

While applying the appropriate shampoo and conditioner you should be sure that you use only cool water as hot water adversely affects your hair. You should rinse your hair thoroughly so that there would be no trace of shampoo or conditioner is found in your hair.
