What are the vision and mission of your business? As business owners we're all busy. There are a million things to do and only so many hours in the day. Some of the key ideas owners must lay out however are the vision and the mission of the business. The vision and mission are at the core of an organization's existence. These set the company's direction.

A vision statement is a guiding image of the company's desired future. It is the ultimate picture of how an owner envisions their company. Here is a sample vision statement. "To be first-choice providers to our marketplace and the most respected company in our sector. The business will be marked by enduring partnerships with valued clients."

A mission statement specifies what activities the organization intends to pursue and what course an owner has charted for the future. It outlines the specifics of how the company will achieve its vision. It includes: Who the company is, what the company does and who the company's clients are.

Here is a sample mission statement:"ABC Company is a client focused financial advisory company, working with business owners. ABC is committed to developing innovative solutions that integrate readily and fully with client's plans. We will become consultants to our clients, focusing on understanding our clients' businesses and applying leading edge technology to solving their needs. We will anticipate our client's business challenges and be ready with solutions as these challenges emerge."

Laying these two statements out helps bring clarity and understanding to not only business owners but other stakeholders as well. This occurs through direct communication and execution.

If you have a challenge with crafting these statements, work with trusted advisors to develop them. It'll pay off in the long run.
