subject: Playa Langosta - Costa Rica's Hidden Jewel [print this page]

If you ask a visitor to Costa Rica if they have heard of Tamarindo, chances are they will say yes. Tamarindo is the #2 tourist destination after Monteverde. However, if you ask a tourist if they have heard of Playa Langosta, chances are they won't know what you are talking about.

Playa Langosta borders Tamarindo on the southern end, and Hacienda Pinilla on the northern end. You can only get to Langosta by driving through Tamarindo.

Playa Langosta is a smaller beach with volcanic rock outcroppings mixed with sandy portions. At low tide, there are great tide pools in which you can see all kinds of sea life. Surfers love the break at the rivermouth and also the smaller beach breaks south from there.

The great thing about Langosta is that you have many luxury accommodations in a quiet neighborhood only steps to one of Costa Rica's most picturesque beaches. It is completely pedestrian friendly with a small supermarket, sports bar, restaurants and a small casino within walking distance. At the same time, if you want night life, you can drive just a mile to get to the many restaurants and night spots of Tamarindo.

Visitors to Langosta might consider staying in some of the most unique projects in Costa Rica including The Courtyard Villas, La Esquina or Horizontes del Mar, with nightly rates that are better than most area hotels and much higher quality. There are two and three bedroom options with full kitchens, some with private pools and jacuzzis.
