The first thing you need to do when starting an Internet business is to set goals. Too many people start off with totally unrealistic goals or no goals at all. They are just trying things out and flying blind. Here is the key: you need to start off with small goals, and then gradually progress to bigger goals. You can call them goals, or milestones, but I will call them goals in this article. Eventually, you will want to have an ultimate target or goal.

Let me tell you my example. When I started out, my ultimate end goal was to make a rather modest five thousand dollars per month. My first initial goal before that was to get to one thousand a month. I hit that figure within six months and after a year or so, I had reached my five thousand dollars target. Since then, I have regularly pulled in a five-figure income on a monthly basis.

Now, even before that $1000 goal, my first aim was to get my first sale. It's the same for everyone else. You've got to get that first sale to validate to yourself that this whole 'make money online' business is real. I still remember my first sale. It was a $20 affiliate product sale from Clickbank. In the following days, I made a few more hundred dollars and I had never been that excited before. Once you make that first few sales, your mind opens up - you become open to the possibilities of quitting your day job, becoming financially free and getting rich. This energy can spur you on to greater heights.

So if you want to get motivated, start aiming for your first sale and then your first $1000 month. And always keep your ultimate goal in mind, whether it's to earn $10,000 a month, quit your day job or retire early. This is what will push you on to success.
