We work to buy things, get upset when something is too expensive or ecstatically happy when we purchase a thing for a lower price. If an average person were asked to collect all his things into one room he or she could be easily buried under his possessions part of which are unlikely to be used often enough to justify the mere fact of their occupying space in the house! We have so many unnecessary things that it has become next to impossible to tell the things we really need!
This is how I mourned and wailed inside trying to make my apartment at least seem neat and tidy. My boyfriend Dan came and found me in the state of complete hatred towards things in general. So, when his mother asked him to find out the prices of men's diamond rings for the reason of his father's coming 55th birthday, I did not know whether to claim him and his mother narrow-minded and mercantile or to sit down at the computer next to him and try to understand why they should consider a diamond ring (an absolutely useless and unnecessary thing!) a perfect birthday present.
He decided to go to IcedTime.com, and my choice was to look at the pictures, half-admitting there might be something I don't know. I was not impressed at the beginning of the Men's rings section, but somewhere at the 5th or 6th page I grew interested, as the models became more and more eye-catching and vivid, not dull and simply expensive. The ring we liked (well, I liked it too, which was strange!) was a 2.5ct model for $1,400, the style and shape of it was a wise compromise between moderately conservative and reasonably daring, in noble white gold and a lavish amount of gems. It was a ring to mark a true man - sensible, generous and full of life. Dan kept saying that a diamond ring was the best token of love and respect, and also a fine way to raise a man's self-esteem, because it is impossible to disrespect yourself when you're wearing this on your finger! And - he claimed quite rightfully - self-esteem cannot be a useless thing.
My curiosity made me glance at the sections of ladies' diamond earrings and ladies' diamond rings, and I must say that I discovered a completely new world for myself. I especially liked a pair of small earrings (model E-2714-AW) which looked so gentle and delicate, revealing the inner feminine beauty to me that my idea of jewelry as unnecessary was completely crashed. Though, I felt that it would take some time for me to start taking seriously the idea of purchasing a piece of diamond jewelry.
In the end Dan's mom bought the ring, being positively excited about huge discounts (that's what she said), and I now understand her and Dan a little better, opening myself to new ideas.
But, I must admit, I'm still too narrow-minded to take in the idea of men's diamond earrings that were also presented on the web page!
