We sat in the lecture room waiting to be called. I went in 3rd to be told that I had just missed out and as a result I was being deferred. I was disappointed, but a lot of positives came out of the feedback, plus another couple of the lads from my unit were, I thought, in the same boat so didn't feel too disheartened. The one part that stuck in my mind was that he said he didn't want to risk taking me because he thought I would be the first one to drop out and would be a liability. I knew this would never have been the case and know for fact younger, fitter lads dropped out on the first weekend. Something I would never have done! They offered me a lift home, but I said I would sat with everyone else which I later found out was the right decisions. I went back the accommodation block and waited for the rest of the guys, who didn't turn up. I managed to find 2 other lads and we had a chat they had both also been deferred. A member of the DS came up to us and explained what was happening and that we should go to the NAAFI for a bit to wait for the lads, which we did. We got back to the accommodation block and then got invited to watch the rest of the troop get sworn. I was confused at this point as I saw the guys who had been called over with me sitting in the front row getting sworn in.
