The reason why you should learn internet marketing is that knowing and implementing various techniques can drive traffic and customers to whatever type of business you have.

What makes internet marketing so attractive is that there are many techniques and services available that, once set up, practically run on "automatic pilot". Depending on the techniques, some require periodic maintenance or updating.

One may think that marketing online is beneficial to only internet based businesses, but that's not true. Even conventional, "bricks and mortar" businesses can benefit from a well executed marketing campaign.

Take the example of Kurt Kytonen, the owner of a boat cover business in Minnesota. After learning and implementing several marketing techniques online, he was able to drive 10,000 hits to his business in three months. His business boomed after that.

Internet marketing's common techniques and buzzwords include blog sites, social media, pay per click (PPC), article writing, press releases and online webinars, to name a few. Starting out using some or all of the techniques for about thirty minutes a day, can bring great results.

Those in the real estate business are missing the boat if they're not participating in any type of internet marketing. It's been shown that a large percentage of people find their home and do online research for a home when in the market.

A real estate agent or broker that is only relying on their company's website and the posting of their contact information next to a property listing, is really allowing a lot of potential customers slip by to your competitor's blog article or communicating with them on Facebook or Twitter. And after a few exchanges of small talk, as you wait for your phone to ring, your competitor is already asking your client what type of home they're looking for and in what area.

Technology and communication is in constant change. You can't do the same thing you did for your business ten or even five years ago and expect the same results.
