subject: Cleaner, Better, Happier [print this page] They say that Cleanliness is next to Godliness. That may be true, but for some of us it seems that cleanliness is almost next to impossible. All kidding aside, a clean home is not only important for health but also for well-being. For me, a sometimes less-than-fastidious housekeeper, I really see the benefits of having the place tidy. When Ive gotten things clean and in order, my moods and productivity improve greatly. Its just difficult to find the time to do it and the chores start to pile up. I decide to take an organized approach to the problem and its been working for me. The key was making a weekly schedule.
I made a chart, dividing the week up and assigning a task or two to each day of the week. Its easy to feel overwhelmed by the never-ending job of house-cleaning but breaking it down into daily tasks makes it a lot easier to think about and accomplish - all I have to worry about is performing that days chores - I can forget about the rest because I know that if I stick to the daily routine everything will get done and that I wont get behind.
The results have been amazing. Spreading the work over the week is a lot better than spending my weekends trying to catch up. I probably spend no more than an hour a day on my tasks and my home looks better than ever. I feel in control of the situation and I know that I wont get behind anymore. Its really a great feeling and I actually look forward to my daily house-cleaning tasks. I have enough to stress about in my life - things I dont have much control over - but house-cleaning is no longer one of them.
Since I work at home and my kids are almost grown its maybe a little easier for me. I know that many working single parents, for instance, simply dont have the time to do it all on their own and for many, the solution is to have professional cleaning services or a maid come in once or twice a week. In my opinion, the expense is worth it, and if your time is really at a premium, it can actually save money or at least give a a person a bit more time for family and friends. Its still a good idea to have a weekly schedule even if you do hire one of the cleaning services London has in every neighborhood. I dont know if cleanliness is connected to Godliness, but I do know that for me, cleanliness = peace of mind.
