subject: 80s Icons - A Space Invaders Couch!? [print this page] I'm sure a lot of people remember or have heard of the classic 80s computer game Space Invaders? Yes, the game with the little gun at the bottom of the ever attacking lines of alien craft that move further and further down the screen.
Space Invaders seems to have reached cult status of late. This follows a surge in recent years in the popularity of other 80s icons such as the Transformers logo (which was heavily adopted within the Goth scene), Thundercats, and Danger Mouse, amongst others.
So why is this? What makes these things from the 80s so cool today in modern society? For me I suppose it's because it was prominent in my youth. I remember being a little boy and playing games like Space Invaders, Manic Miner, and Chucky Egg. I learnt my early vocab from cartoons such as Thundercats and Dangermouse. These things are important to me as they formed my roots, and made me who I am today. I look at the youths of today and find it sad that they've come into a world where they know no different. They take for granted the modern technology and have no basis for comparison. I'm proud of the fact that I was alive "back in the day" when technology was still finding it's feet. I believe that is the reason why these 80s icons are so cool now.

Personally I find this awesome. I saw that photo and thought to myself "I have to have that". I traced it down to a designer known as Igor Chak. Unfortunately he needs a company to manufacture a batch of these, so I think it would be great to drum up some interest. I can't think of anything that would look cooler in my bachelor pad!!
Seeing the picture of this couch has inspired me to go retro. I'd love to kit out my home with high quality and unique retro talking points. Who has any other nuggets of retro furniture knowledge?
Another retro item worth noting is something more internety. I've become a devout follower of a website known as Gazoomy.com.With the help of this website I also have a Space Invaders Google theme!Now, you can't knock that if you're a retro nut.
