Dessert Sight

9-4-10

Dessert sand between my feet

Slips silently without notice.

That dessert sky so long and wide

Strung with star light's night

Brilliant with day star's might

Sings it's songs of silent verses

Sweet sounds of peace

Sung on days hot winds and nights cool breeze

One's mind to fit like tailored suits

Beneath the blue above the tan without roots

Clear like a mind at rest with no band

Just silent music played and harmonizing sand

Coyotes and whippoorwills, hawks and buzzards join in

A distant chorus plays from some strange instrument,

Percussion of the rattle snake showing,

The snares faint brush, the sand blowing

And brought back to man's mark by the whisper of a jet

Streaking at 40,000 feet, its white tail is set

Full of men and women, laughing and talking,

Not seeing me below nor the magnificent dunes stalking

And soon is gone into history, lost to civilization

While I muse at the lands lay before me and the sun

Its silent dimensions stretch out, alive almost,

Shouting a mysterious message from a heavenly host,

I do not yet understand.

Owned by someone but owned by no one but God,

Who let me borrow it for a moment, to posses it as my own,

Owned by someone but owned by no one but me,

To do with it as I please. To relish its grandeur,

To replenish and recharge my mind's eye,

So I can plainly see the space between the land and sky.
