subject: Sunglasses: Shades For All People [print this page]

Sunglasses were first invented when man began to grow tired of squinting into the sun while working outdoors. Eye glasses were already in existence so creating a dark lens that one could see through, but would block most of the rays of the sun was pretty easy to create. Traditionally, sunglasses were used only by laborers, but eventually the upper classes society members decided that their precious eyes needed protection from the sun as well thus the fashion sunglasses were born.

Sunglasses morphed from the wire framed, dark tinted eyewear into the designer elite sunglasses that so many notable people don before leaving the mansions, but before the designer glasses there were the cheesy sunglasses made popular in the 80s.

The brightly colored sunglasses of the 80s were so cool they were hot. These sunglasses were worn by rap stars, models, cool guys in Delorians, and cool chicks in high heel boots. The cheesy 80s sunglasses were snatched off the shelves in cartfuls and worn by thirty somethings, teenagers, and even babies (their parents thought it would be cute to slap a pair of sunglasses on their baby and take a picture). Maybe people began to realize how silly they looked, or the sunglasses themselves protested their abuse at the hands of so many lame people, but eventually the cheesy 80s glasses gave way to the designer glasses that are still popular today.

Designer sunglasses come in hundreds of different designs from world class designers like Gucci, Ray Ban, and Tommy Hilfiger. Persol sunglasses are also well known for their chic designs and oversized sunglasses. Designer sunglasses have taken the world by storm and the popularity doesnt seem to be dying off yet.

The oversized sunglasses are popular to the starlet that wants to roam the streets incognito. How they thought they could get away from the paparazzi by wearing a very obvious and large pair of look at me, Im over here sunglasses, well never know. So many actresses and performing artists are spotted wearing these sunglasses that youd think they would realize that they dont work as a disguise but hey, at least they look good, right?

Sunglasses had a very humble beginning in the fields of farmers and laborers, but now, they have an esteemed position as a fashion accessory to the elite of the world, and the housewife with a few extra Benjamins sitting around. May the world know the fun and history of sunglasses and bask in their power over the suns glare in your eye.
