subject: Living Life On Your Own Can Be Hard At First [print this page]

Independence is not easy for everyone, especially people who are not used to it. The challenge of being on your own can be daunting. It is best to take small measures and gradually attain independence until it is no longer a conscious effort.

I have a few basic tips for you to get you started on your road to independence. Start out slow, be patient, and with persistence you will attain your goals.

Don't let people pay for you. It doesn't matter whether it is a relative or a partner, paying your own way can do a lot for your self-confidence. If you're used to having people buy things for you, it will be hard to change this habit. Just remember: it is important.

Pay your bills. Taking on the responsibility of an important bill can be a huge step towards independence. It takes measure fearlessness and confidence that dependent people generally do not have.

It can be hard for some people to be by themselves, especially for people who have been around others all their lives. Some people, men and women, go straight from living at home with family to living with a partner. Learn how to be by yourself and not need the presence of others around you.

Look for a hobby that you can do alone. Read more books or play video games by yourself, for example. There are many things you can enjoy without the company of another person; find one that you like and engage in it.

Learn how to switch things up and try stuff that isn't normal for you. Being spontaneous is fine and can lead to many new and interesting experiences.

You don't have to live a solitary life to be independent. Do not forsake your social life; just learn to live without it if you need to.
