subject: Jack McFarland Of Will And Grace [print this page] Jack McFarland (played by Sean Hayes) was a friend of the two title characters on Will And Grace. He also provided much comic relief. He was constantly saying the wrong thing at the wrong time and often exclaimed the truth to anyone who would listen when his friends wanted to keep it secret.
Jack was always in pursuit of his career. The problem was that his career changed almost weekly. He worked in a restaurant, a retail shop, he was a dancer, a nurse, an actor, an acting teacher. As an acting teacher, he developed his own method of acting (the "McFarland Method") which he insisted on teaching to his students. Even though he clearly lacked any talent, he did manage to keep a few students. Despite all of his endeavors, he didn't make much money. Because of his poor finances, he persuaded three different people to each pay half of his rent because he couldn't afford it. This, of course, meant that he was getting 150% of his rent and so he was pocketing some of the money.
Jack was openly gay. This did not, however, mean that he had a steady boyfriend. He changed boyfriends as fast as he changed jobs. He was very open about his homosexuality (as he was about most everything). He was also very intent that others be open. He wasn't much for keeping secrets. When his friend Will wouldn't admit to being gay, Jack announced, "You're Marvin Gay! And let me tell you, ain't no closet big enough!"
