subject: Tips To Improve Your Singing Voice [print this page]

Want to be a good singer? Then I am sure you will benefit from these tips which I am going to share with you.

Breath control is one of the most important factors of good singing and proper methods of breathing while singing. Breath control can be achieved through the following exercise.

Lie down flat on a bed or preferably on a yoga mat on the floor. Take a deep breath such that your chest fills out and you feel your lungs are about to burst. Hold breath for a few seconds and then release slowly till your chest comes back to normal. Repeat this exercise five times initially raising the number to ten times gradually. You will find that you will be able to hold your breath for longer periods eventually.

Taking a breath at the correct moments while singing. Do not take shallow breaths which will break a sentence in the middle losing the beautiful flow of music. Instead learn where you can take breaths in each song while practicing so that you render it well in front of an audience.

Think of the audience as your friends and interact with them while singing. Initially this can be achieved by singing your most favorite songs and ones you are very confident with. As you proceed you will find that as you sing well and interact your confidence level grows. Try to do some deep breathing exercises to calm you down before a performance.

Remember that each singer has a different voice which means he or she will be suited to singing different types of songs. Hence listen to your voice and find out which kind of songs suit yours voice best and that sounds perfect when rendered. It is not necessary that we should be able to sing all the songs that we like. Understanding this is very important since a song rendered badly causes loss of confidence.

Finally this old adage of practice makes perfect is the one which will get you to Carnegie Hall if that is your goal. Be it any art form or any sport there is nothing like regular practice. So, it will make sense if you can allot a time slot for voice practice every day. Record your improvement and get your music coach to listen so that he can assess your improvement and give suggestions. Remember that commitment and practice is the only road to success.
