subject: We Need To Take Responsibility As To How We Live Our Lives [print this page] Injuries are all part of the game when it comes to martial arts such as Tae Kwan Do. Thus it was no surprise at all that we'll pretty soon have our own share of pains and bruises at some point when I signed myself up along with a friend. There was one time when my friend got injured during the fight and his opponent immediately helped him up while offering his apology.
Nat was all cool about it though. He told the guy not to apologize since it wasn't really his fault. They were in a fight and these injuries are certainly part of it. I think it was an honourable and humble statement.
Throughout the entire length of the martial arts course, my friend and I pitted ourselves against sparring partners considerably younger than us and had our own share of muscle pains and bruises to remember it by. However, it was all part of the plan. It was our decision to take part in it in the first place and you simply shouldn't be in a martial arts class if you aren't willing to take a little beating.
If I were to relate this experience with the hardships we all experience in life, I would say that the very same essence can be said out of it. We have all the power to make all decisions we want in life. People lose sight of this fact more often that we might want to admit ourselves. We decide who we would like to spend our time with or what kind of profession we would like to undertake in life.
Most people who got involved in a car accident would typically insist that it wasn't their fault and cast the blame on others. When I got my own share of car accidents I would often think of the part I played that led to such situations. Mostly, it was just my lack of attention which I believe is true for most people in many cases. If you had full control of the car at that point, then you are responsible for it.
Simply put, we are responsible for our own lives in general. We all feel that a lot of hardships we experience in life as unfair and attribute it to be the work of others. That may be true, but the thing is that you made decisions that lead you to that position no matter how you may want to deny that. This reality is not something that most people would openly accept, it is after all much more convenient to pin the faults on somebody else but this is not the best way to tackle these issues. The thing is that every road that you take in life may it lead to good or bad things was a road that you yourself decided to take.
It is not to say that it is wrong to blame others especially when it's crystal clear that they have offended you. However, when has blaming others ever achieved anything? It is best to just take things as they are and do something about it.
Everyone has had their share of difficult times. It is not important to make it a point to cast blame on anybody since it does not really achieve anything. In the end, it is up to you to take in how the things went down and cope with it the best way that you can. You cannot change what has already transpired; the only real question is what are you going to do about it? The fault may not be yours to begin with but where your life goes after that is still your responsibility.
It would also certainly help a lot if you can appreciate the good things that came out of the whole ordeal instead of focusing on the negative ones. Appreciate what you still have around you and make the best out of. Don't resort to blaming yourself or others and wishing things could have played out differently because this just won't do you any good. People are not perfect, and no one should ever expect them to be. We all reach our limits at some point and it's something that we all have to find our own means of dealing with it.
