So..first off, why is there such high demand for these products?

Every year we spent millions of pounds on anti-ageing creams and cosmetic procedures like, Botox, face lifts and chemical peels, are becoming more and more popular. Anti-aging creams have been targeted towards women in the past, but products specifically targeting men are increasingly common. It seems everywhere you look there's super models advertising all kinds of things, so its only natural that other women will endevour to look as beautiful and stay that way for as long as they can.

"seems that wrinkles are high on our list of cosmetic concerns. One in three women over 30 in the UK uses an anti-ageing product", according to one survey.

...What are these products up against?

Lets look at some factors which cause ageing in the first place...

1. Genitcs.

Of course this is an obvious one, it has been said that roughly 30% of facial ageing is genetic.

2. Lifestyle.

lifestyle has a much greater impact. 'whether you smoke' and, 'are you out in the sun for long periods?', these, among others, can have a massive effect on you skin.

So what's in these creams? Are we wasting our money or can they really do anything to repair the damage?

Thanks to modern science, we have found a large variety of compounds which can aid in repairing wrinkles and damaged skin, leading to healthier looking skin, but which ones are the best?

To answer this we will have to take a look at what factors aid our skin to remove and keep away these blemishes.

Here is a small list of things to look out for when shopping for skin products, which are beneficial to our skin:

1. Products with Vitamins C & E:

* Vitamin C has a brightening effect as it can help to boost circulation and collagen production.

2. Products with AHA (alpha hydroxy acid):

* Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs or 'fruit acids') improve the skin's appearance by speeding up the shedding of old, dead cells from the skin surface. products with alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) can "help remove the dead outer layers of skin, leaving the face with a fresh, younger appearance. AHAs are particularly beneficial for wrinkles around the mouth and eyes."

3. Vitamins A and B3:

* Vitamin A can help reduce wrinkles, thanks to its light inflammatory action which puffs up the skin to make wrinkles look less deep.

* These ingredients have also been effective in treating other skin problems such as acne, pigmentation disorders, and healing wounds.

4. Retinoids:

* "Retinoids are chemicals that make the skin produce new cells more quickly, making it thicker and more compact. After a month or two of use, the skin becomes smoother and fine wrinkles are reduced, but after six months it will be as good as it's going to get. If you discontinue use, the skin reverts to its previous condition. Has no effect on noticeable deep lines or thread veins."

Through all my studies i've found that the most important thing to remember is, (if you want to keep health, young looking skin), always use a high UVB protection sun cream, the sun is one of the worst things for your skin.

A few more points to remember when your shopping for skin care products...

"Anti-aging creams are predominantly moisturiser based cosmeceutical skin care products marketed with the promise of making the consumer look younger by reducing visible wrinkles, expression lines, blemishes, pigmentation changes, discolourations and other environmentally (especially from the sun) related conditions of the skin."

"Despite great demand, many such products and treatments have not been proven to give lasting or major positive effects. One study found that the best performing creams reduced wrinkles by less than 10% over 12 weeks which is not noticeable to the human eye."

"Another study found that cheap moisturisers were as effective as high-priced anti-wrinkle creams."

"Remember, too, when you purchase an anti wrinkle skin care product, you are also paying for the packaging. More elaborate packaging schemes can significantly increase the expense associated with different products."

Conclusion...

As long as you know what you are looking for, you should be able find an effective product, suited to your needs...just have a little read up and you'll be armed against the companies making false claims..."just my 2 cents"...
