For the 2010 model year, the Dodge Ram 2500 is the only truck in its class that comes standard with a diesel engine. Available in ST regular 4x2 and 4x4 models as well as in SLT 4x2 and 4x4 models, the Cummins 5.7 liter HEMI diesel engine produces up to 383 horsepower (delivered at 5,600 rpm) and up to 383 foot pounds of torque (produced at 4,000 rpm). Unchanged from the previous year, this engine is equipped with variable valve timing to give it the most possible power available. This engine gives the 2500 pickup enough power to carry a payload of 3,160 pounds and a towing capacity of 13,450 pounds. An optional diesel engine is available for the Ram 2500 regular cab and the Ram 2500 crew cab. The larger engine gives it even more power: the 6.7 liter diesel HEMI inline 6 engine with Common-Rail Direct Injection (this engine is standard in the Ram 3500). This engine kicks in 350 horsepower and a hefty 650 foot pounds of torque. The 2500 comes fitted with a standard 5 speed transmission, but an optional 6 speed transmission is available.

Automotive critics rave about the Dodge Ram 2500. They almost all note the impressive power of its engine, but some, such as Edmunds.com, point out that the 2500 has a fantastic ride and a newly redesigned interior, making it the preferred truck in its class. To give you an idea how good this truck is, the only bad thing about it mentioned by Edmunds is the controls on the radio.
