Throughout each episode, experts are brought in to explain about the history of the artifact as well as to appraise them. Many times, they come to an agreed price, but sometimes an agreement is not made, even violent encounters ensue when certain customers find that their prized possession is nothing but a knock-off replica or complete and utter fake.

One notable cast member and viewer favorite, Chumlee, is seen as a gullible, lazy, yet lovable employee whose antics are seen as either annoying or enthralling by his fellow pawn brokers.
