subject: Seattle Seahawks Tickets - Apology Comes, Four Years Later [print this page] The 2005 season was a sweet one for the Seattle Seahawks. They dominated the NFC West with a record of 13-3. From there, they entered the playoffs and topped the Washington Redskins 20-10 during the divisional round and then trounced the Carolina Panthers 34-14 during the NFC Conference Championship game. Then came the Super Bowl, and the Seahawks' storybook ending was thwarted when they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-10.
Those who watched the game probably recall a few questionable calls by the referees during that game, and they aren't the only ones. Veteran official Bill Leavy was part of the crew who officiated that Super Bowl, and he came to Seattle in August to explain new rules and interpretations. While there, Leavy spoke with the local media and admitted that he botched two calls in the fourth quarter of that game, saying he "impacted the game." Leavy also said it was a regret he will have the rest of his life. The score was 14-10 heading into the fourth quarter, and the Steelers cemented their win with a final touchdown in the fourth quarter.
His apology was well received by the members of the Seattle Seahawks team who were around for the call. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was one such player, and according to the Seattle Times, he said, "It's not a perfect science. There's a lot of human involvement there. I played some games that I remember because I felt like I did a good job and I played some games where I had some regrets." He went on to explain that making mistakes is something that simply comes with playing, coaching and officiating. Other players, like defensive tackle Craig Terrill, also expressed their appreciation for the apology.
The Seahawks don't have much time to dwell on the past, though, because their preseason kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 14 against the Tennessee Titans in Seattle. For the rest of the preseason, the Seahawks will also face the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders. Fans are already securing Seattle Seahawks tickets for these games as well as the regular season, which starts on Sept. 12 in Seattle against the San Francisco 49ers. This season has been a highly-anticipated one for the team, especially with the addition of former USC coach Pete Carroll as the team's new head coach.
To prepare for the season, the team has continued to bolster their roster with new talent. Two recent additions are wide receiver Matt Simon and linebacker Tyjuan Hagler. Simon spent a brief amount of time on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints last season. Hagler entered the league in 2005 as the fifth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts. Since then, he has worked his way from a backup to starting seven games last season. In his career, he has tallied 114 tackles, one sack, four passes defended and two forced fumbles. In order to clear room on their roster, the Seahawks parted ways with wide receiver Marcus Maxwell (who is injured) and cornerback Chris Richards.
