Most people who choose to eat a raw food diet to battle IBS, Colitis and Crohn's Disease or some other chronic illness, completely eliminate animal product. Much of the animal product that we humans consume is known to contain parasites and worms. In fact, many food experts and researchers tell us that 95% of all western peoples have parasites and worms living in their intestines, the result of eating meat. The only real way to avoid the worms, bacteria and other parasites is stop eating meat altogether.
Normally, molds, and yeast are harmless. They can and will make you sick, but you won't die, more often than not. Molds and yeasts are found in mushrooms, cheese, sprouts, seeds, grains and some nuts, and as with meat, cooking is no guarantee of avoiding the danger of food poisoning. What you do have to do is to make a commitment to wash your hands before, during and after food handling. Buy food product from trusted outlets only. Keep your food refrigerated until you're ready to use it.
Some food experts recommend washing all produce in a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water or apple cider vinegar, water and sea salt, to disinfect foods before handling. This solution draws out the pesticides and other chemicals if there are any present. Soaking for about 10 minutes will do the trick.
For those who suffer IBS, Colitis and Crohn's Disease eating out presents special problems. When you arrive at the restaurant spot check the place fore you sit down to the table. Look for signs of cleanliness or a lack thereof. Check the restrooms. If you don't like what you see, hear or smell, then eat elsewhere. You will be glad you did. Taking the time to scout out the place may ultimately prevent a bout of discomforting symptoms and flare ups that can occur if you have the misfortune of eating tainted food.
