subject: Tips for Renting Cars [print this page]

Are you in the market for a car rental? From time to time we find ourselves on a trip for fun and pleasure or for work. When we do it is almost necessary that we have a set of wheels to get around on. Particularly if we travel by airplane. For that car rental we will need to follow a few guidelines in make sure we have the best car rental experience.

Here are 5 guidelines to follow when renting a car:

1) Most likely we will be driving a lot. With gas prices as high as they are a car that gets good gas mileage is in our best interest. Can we pack light so that we can accommodate a smaller vehicle?

2) A lot of rental agencies will pressure you to buy their add ons. Particularly they will do this with car insurance. If you already have car insurance it is not necessary to buy a second policy. However they may try to pressure you to buy theirs. Be warned they push this tactic hard if you come in late at night. It is their hope you are just in a hurry to get the car.

3) If you are a non-smoker check the car, suv or truck you get for the smoker smell. You will have a frustrating trip if you find that smell distasteful and the car smells that way. They may say it is a non-smokers car but it may not be.

4) If you can rent a car from a place away from the airport you will find rates are much lower. Use the internet to search for deals ahead of the trip.

5) Never buy the gas from the rental agency. Even if they give you a lower rate you will have a hard time bring the car back with an empty tank.

These 5 tips will help you next time you have to rent a car!
