subject: Fix a Golf Slice - Follow These Tips and Stop the Slice [print this page] Fix a golf slice now and start having fun again when you golf. Golf is a very humbling sport and statistics show that 80% of all golfers suffer from a slice. If your slicing the ball on a regular basis what are you doing to try and correct it? Have you tried and not succeeded and then gave up? I had a slice pretty much from the very start and I finally grew sick and tired of playing with a slice.
I quit golf because my slice was not going away. It was my fault I wasn't trying anything different. I thought I could just play through my slice. How wrong I was and it set me back years. After quitting golf for 6 months, I started getting the itch to play again.
Rather than do what I always did, I used a training aid in conjunction with multiple trips to the driving range to fix my swing. I played no rounds of golf, only range activity until my swing improved.
A golf slice is caused by the club face coming across the ball from outside the target line, creating side-spin on the ball. Furthermore, a golf slice is also caused by the upper body getting ahead of the lower body, creating an "over-the-top" move, which in turn results in your club face slashing across the ball and creating side-spin.
The things that I worked on focused around my swing mechanics and my weight transfer. On the back swing it helped me to start taking the club back slower where as before I would take the club back too fast and would not pause at the top of back swing.
My wrists were breaking at the top of the back swing as I tried to improve distance but it would cause me to slice. Focus on keeping your wrists straight throughout the swing. Another problem I had was a flying elbow. Now this is beneficial if I was a WWE superstar or an MMA fighter but not in golf. A flying elbow is the trailing elbow flying away from my body during the swing.
Keep the trailing elbow tucked to the side during both the back swing and down swing. The lead elbow has to remain straight as well during the back swing. Bending or breaking the elbow will cause you to slice or in my case hit fades.
