subject: Used Van Sales - Try Out The Auction Option [print this page]

After the house, the next capital purchase for most households is the vehicle. It is an expense that needs to be thought about carefully since the costs extend well beyond the initial purchase expenses in the form of regular maintenance costs, fuel costs, insurance costs and so on. Over time, these costs can become a sizeable one and you need to be very clear about whether you would be able to afford a vehicle.

Having said the above, the next decision is which vehicle to go for? Small families can make do with a car while for big families; a van would be a more prudent option considering the various advantages of space and comfort.

The fact however is that not everybody can afford to purchase a new van and have no alternative but to go for a used van for sale option so that they can get the vehicle of their choice at a reduced price and they can meet the needs of the family as well.

In this regard, the usual methodology on the part of such buyers has always been to approach private sellers and dealers. But there is one more option and that is checking with a suitable auction house.

You as a buyer only need to do your homework before approaching a private seller, dealer or the auction house and that is to know your requirement of the van in terms of its capacity, price, features normally present as well as anything you may want extra, finance options, warranty facilities if offered and so on. This will help you shortlist the model you would like to go for based on the budget and the used van loan arrangement you can tie up.

You can look for that model at the auction house and if available you can bid for the same. The models and items that would be put up for auction are usually announced some weeks in advance on the internet as well as print media. The only disadvantage with buying a used van for sale at an auction is the 'as is' condition of the vehicle. You would not get an idea about the service history of the vehicle and there will be no warranty offered as well. Once you bid for the vehicle of your choice and win it, you cannot return the vehicle for whatever reason and your only recourse would be to approach a good mechanic if the vehicle starts giving you trouble with its performance.

So in the final analysis, it is indeed the chance factor that comes into play at such auction purchases. If you are lucky, you could walk away with a good vehicle that still has some years left in it before being consigned to the junkyard or face the prospect of repair charges on a regular basis. But it is still worth taking that chance if you can get the model of your choice at a price that is far lower than what you would have had to pay when making a conventional purchase.
