subject: How To Beat Exhaustion And Boost Your Vitality [print this page]

The reason why we eat food is to give us the energy to move and do things. However, in most countries people have enough or even too much food to eat. However, by the afternoon many people can feel run down and exhausted.

These feelings of exhaustions have a lot to do with the diet that they are eating. The main source of energy we get is from carbohydrates. When we eat carbohydrates these are converted into glucose in the body which provides us with the fuel to function properly. Glucose is also important for the functioning of the brain especially when it comes to concentration and memory.

Many people who feel tired and exhausted during the day should look at the current diet they are eating. If you are not eating enough carbohydrates then you need to increase your intake. Diets that are high in fat and low in carbohydrates take longer for the body to digest which can make you feel tired.

To give you an energy boost you should introduce more carbohydrates into your diet. A well balanced diet that includes good fats, protein and carbohydrates will give you sustained and balanced energy throughout the day.

When many people get tired during the day especially in the afternoon they usually eat or drink something that is high in sugar to give them that energy boost. These are usually a can of cola or a chocolate cake. Although these are carbohydrates they are refined which means they can raise your blood sugar levels very high. This has the affect of giving you an instant energy boost however, that energy boost will drop as fast leaving you as tired and lethargic as when you started.

The best way to avoid this is stop eating soda drinks and sugary snacks. Eat healthier alternatives such as low fat yoghurt or a banana as these will give you a natural energy boost.

When and how you eat is as important as what you eat. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day however, many people skip it because they do not have any time or do not feel hungry. However, by 11 o clock they are exhausted and stuffing their face with a pastry. Get into the habit of eating a breakfast everyday as this will give you the energy you need to get through the morning. It is more effective that you eat small, regular amounts of food during the day. Eating large meals in one sitting is not good for the digestive system and will make you feel more tired.

If you have a health condition or a food allergy then seek the advice of a doctor before changing your diet.
