subject: Can I Live Green, As Well? [print this page]

In recent years, we have been exposed to the idea of global warming. There has been a recent trend of "going green." Green living is a person who has the desire to keep the earth healthy. There are so many options that it is sometimes difficult to know how to be.

Reducing Waste and Consumption.

You can begin by reducing your energy consumption. You can replace all of your light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs. They are more pricey than normal light bulbs, but will save money in the end. These can last fifteen times as long as the normal bulb. Many costs are cut down. You can also trace this to further savings such as not having to drive to the store as often to purchase more bulbs. Savings in one area affects another.

Reuse Products and Give Them a New Life

Now that you have reduced your consumption of newly purchased items, it's time to extend the life of what you have in your collection. Before you throw an item away, see if you can reuse or transform it. You don't have to be a crafter or a carpenter to do this. Think outside the box. Look at the empty shoe boxes in your closet. Find other uses before tossing them in the garbage. You can use them in your bathroom to store cosmetics, or in your living room to store CDs. Recycling Refreshes an Old Item

There are many ways to recycle. Separating trash is a good starting point. Any paper including cereal boxes and other cardboard containers can be placed in the paper bucket of your trash area. Collect plastic bottles. There are many people already doing this. There are other recycling options. Make old sweaters into bags. Take old sheets, decorate them with stamps and paint and with a few alterations you can hand them as curtains.

Look at the items that you are about to throw into the trash and see if you can turn it into something new. Yard sales are other good ways to recycle. You are continuing the use of an existing product.
