subject: How To Locate Dogs For Sale [print this page]

Knowing where to look for dogs for sale can be easy. However, knowing how to find dogs that have been cared for, are healthy, and are from bitches that have not been bred into organ failure, can sometimes be more difficult.

Puppy mills are shadowy retailers that offer puppies for some very high prices and guarantees that are rarely upheld. The puppies are sick, they aren't cared for, and many stores are shut down because upon inspection it is found that the poor animals aren't being fed, they are living in their own filth, and they don't even have clean water.

There are wonderful dogs to be found at your local shelter instead. Rather than finding dogs for sale, look for dogs for adoption. These animals have been lost or surrendered by their families, and face a certain death if not placed in a loving home quickly.

If you aren't too fussy about the breed, local pet stores always have signs up from local patrons for dogs that are for sale for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the family needs to find a new home for their beloved pet or there may be someone whose dog gave birth and they need to find homes for the puppies.

In many cases, people are simply trying to find good homes for the dogs and are willing to give them away free rather than selling them.

Breeders will usually have you sign a contract and will provide you with lineage papers so you can register your new pet with the kennel club if you choose. These papers can be verified with the kennel club; do this before handing over a check.
