subject: Road-safety Tips And Cell Phones [print this page]

Driving in this world can be a unsafe thingDriving in this world can be a unsafe thing. Cell phones in many states have been banned for operation during driving because not-paying-attention causes so many accidents, and cell phones cause inattention. But, we still have a problem. The issue is that so many people are still distracted when driving. For example, in California people are still allowed to be on the phone if they are not using their hands. Many factors cause people to be dodgy while they are driving, and to cause an accident it only takes one person to make one mistake.

There are a number of things people can do to become safer while driving. They should not use their phones for any reason, especially texting. Texting while driving is potentially the most perilous activity done on the road because it uses so many aspects of the brain's capacity, leaving little left for cautious driving.

A large number of accidents occur when something in the car is dropped or spilled. So, drivers need to make the decision now that when their soda falls to the floor, they don't try to catch it while they are driving.

Drivers should not travel while tired or fatigued. Either stop to rest or don't try to make the journey in the first place. On main highways, many rest stops have been put in place to protect weary travelers and the people they could hurt.

Being a cautious driver is not always a fail-safe method. You can only control so much on the road. Accidents will still occur, even the safest drivers are prone. This is where post-accident safety can come in handy. A recent innovation in Smartphone apps actually may increase accident safety through the use of cell phones. An app called My911 has, among other things, a setting so that in the case of a car accident, the police are automatically called and put on the phone via speaker-phone or hands-free mode. The police are given the exact GPS location of the accident and can talk to the accident victim if they are still conscious. This is one way of improving the success of 911 emergency services and protecting people after they are in an accident.
