subject: A Movie Fan's Guide Of Movies From The 80s Which Are Timeless [print this page]

Few decades had as many cult classics and influential films as the 1980s. It seems like classic after classic was churned out during this decade. Whether it was an action, comedy, epic or war film, this decade had it all.

Here are what I believe to be the most important films that were released from 1980-1989.

I will start with The Terminator. Aside from Aliens, this was James Cameron's other major picture from the decade. This was also the role that put pushed a future California governor into major stardom.

E.T. is another classic from the 1980s that remains a must see for any child. In fact, E.T. was just on television and after watching it, I felt inspired to write this article. This is one of Spielberg's marquee films.

No list of 80s films would be complete without mentioning Raging Bull. In my opinion, this remains the greatest movie from the duo of Martin Scorcese and Robert De Niro.

I am not the biggest fan on Oliver Stone films, but I must give credit where credit is due. Platoon is one of the greatest war films of all time. It is probably also Charlie Sheen's best role, along with Wall Street.

I would be remiss to not include The Shining on my list. This remains one of the greatest horror movies ever created. Jack Nicholson is terrifying in this movie, and it stands the test of time.

This is my personal list, but there are so many films that can be argued for. I very well may have to make another list very soon. Stay tuned.
