Bulk email marketing has become the new mass marketing tool of this millinium, like direct mail, bulk email is list driven but in a much different way, it's simpler because there is not as many delivery elements needed to be delivered. There is less clean up, no CASS processing, no sorting per se, duplicate elimination is much easier and it is a fraction of the cost compared to direct mail and its accompaning postal charges.

There are important differences, a direct mail piece is more tangible and can probably be found for several days laying on a table somewhere, where as email marketing messages are not read till you check your in box after you connect and get online. But electronic or digital marketing is the future and will become more and more sofisticated as time goes on, email message can bringyou graphics, videos, audio and much more to enhance the experience. Emails is a number game in that many hundreds of thousands if not millions can be broadcasted without much effort, there are still problems, before it was the post office errors of losing large amounts of mail, now its the temperment of the people who run the operations at large ISP and ESP companies who with the flick of a switch filter out large numbers of email from delivering and assign a return code of their choice.

Return codes in regards to bulk email processing are very important, they indicate the level of success a campaign is having, they indicate how the emails that did not make through the process need to be reprocessed and how soon, they also indicate the value of the email address itself and the amount of opt outs generated by a particular campaign.
