subject: Home Security- Protect Yourself Through The Recession [print this page]

The year 2010 has brought many changes in the world, unfortunately economically things still dont seem to be looking up. There are very few countries that have been left untouched by the horrible economy. The United States is still most definitely in a recession. Jobs are being lost to this day and though some stocks are taking small steps in rising, it isnt very promising as a continuing trend. We seem to be approaching what they call a Double Dip Recession. As we continue to go deeper into this economic mess there are certain measures you can take to protect you and your family in all ways.

1. Make sure you have an emergency fund. If its possible set some money aside that you dont touch. Whether it be putting 20 dollars aside a week or keeping your spare change. It adds up quicker than you would think. This way if there is anytime you need a little extra cash its there for you. If you want to set more aside you might even want to think about creating a savings account that you pretend doesnt exist. Place a sum of money you can live without per month or per week.

2. Cut down on unnecessary spending. There are a lot of things that we buy that we dont really need. Also think about what you spend money on. Is there a less expensive no-name brand of the cereal you eat? Consider buying that instead. Do you pay to have internet or games on your cell phone when you dont need it? Is there a grocery store a little but further away that costs much less. There are all steps you can take to spend less money on a weekly basis. Do you need to get coffee from Starbucks or can you make it and buy a to-go cup? How many nights a week do you eat out? Limit it to maybe one or two times. Also if you were going to re-do your bathroom or your kitchen and its not necessary maybe hold off until you know you wont need the money further down the line. The same goes for vacations.

3. Each time the economy takes a hit crime rises in every state, in every country. Internet theft is the highest its ever been but home robbery is climbing as well. How is your home security? Though we have mentioned before to cut spending there are certain things worth investing in. No one wants to have to replace a window or buy a new television or replace anything else that gets stolen when money is tight and it could have been prevented with a good home security system. What you can do is have a professional look at your house. Make sure if you have an alarm system that its up to date. If it isnt, take the measures you need to prevent people from breaking into your house. If money is tight for you, imagine how tight it is for those without a job. Desperation sets in very quickly. You can price different home alarm systems and compare them. Obviously your best choice will be that which offers the best protection for the least amount. Dont pick the cheapest just because its cheap. You want to make sure it offers good protection.
