subject: Sinus Problems Information: Learning The Effective Treatments [print this page]

Several treatments for sinus infection are already known to a lot of people. In fact, many patients are now starting to learn the basic home remedies to quickly eliminate the infection without having to spend more for expensive medicines. Preventing sinusitis is not really hard but it needs immediate action to stop the inflammation from spreading. Here are some of the effective treatments for sinusitis.

The Power of Antibiotics

Antibiotic is an effective cure for sinusitis. For severe infection, a decongestant is prescribed to reduce the inflammation in the sinus cavities. Expectorant along with antihistamines is also good to reduce the thickening mucus that causes the swelling in the sinuses. You may also be advised to use a nasal steroid if the symptoms persist. Some doctors may prescribe oral steroids if nasal steroid won't still work for the patient. Another medication recommended for a patient who has an allergic fungal sinusitis is prednisone. However, this is not advisable for those with health complications like diabetes and cancer. Remember to always ask your doctor about the possible side-effects of these medications. He might give you some effective alternatives other than prescribing you drug treatments.

The Effective Home Remedies

Medicinal plants can be as effective as medication. If you want to eliminate the dryness that causes sinus irritation, use a humidifier. A salt water nasal spray can soften the nasal passageway. Use this to reduce the presence of bacteria and viruses. Keeping a proper diet can help a lot too. Always eat fruits and vegetables in your meal. Drink plenty of fruit juices especially those that contains vitamin C for a strong immune system. If you have enough time, prepare chicken soup to help unclog and loosen the thick secretions. If irritation occurs, the use of steam can help improve your condition. But if both soup and steam fail, apply few drops of saline solution into the nostrils to dilute the thick mucus that blocks the nasal passages. For chronic sinus cases, try the acupuncture treatment.

The Helpful Nasal Wash

Another effective method in removing the thick mucus from the nose is nasal wash. At least perform this method 3 to 5 times a day. Remember to always stay careful in doing a nasal wash. Do not blow your nose hard to prevent any bleeding. Use saline solution for a faster relief.

Don't ignore the symptoms of sinusitis. Severe sinus infection can lead to some health complications in the brain and bones and this problem needs time and money. Don't let this happen to you.
