subject: How Funeral Services Are Managed [print this page]

Death is an inevitable reality that all of us have to confront but planning the funeral of a loved one can still be very disturbing. However, you have to accept the irreparable loss that you have met with and be ready for making proper funeral service arrangements for the deceased. Most funeral homes will guide you in this matter and help you make all the arrangements but it is good to be aware of certain things in advance.

A funeral is a reflection of a person's life and it must be carried out accordingly. There is a standard pattern which almost all funeral services adhere to, and any change would usually depend on particular religious and cultural inclinations of the deceased and his or her family members.

The first stage of a funeral service can range from a couple of hours to several days and it is called visitation. Here, the deceased is fondly remembered by his family and friends. This is succeeded by the formal funeral service, which may be held inside the chapel of the mortuary, or any church that you choose, or even at any other site which was special to the deceased. A hearse or funeral coach would need to be booked if the funeral is to be arranged in an outdoor location.

After this service, the mourners generally move to the cemetery for the graveside service. This can be managed by either a relative of the deceased or the clergy based on the decision of the family. You also need to take care of several other things like the kind of flowers you want for the service, if you want to exhibit a photo of the dead person and who will ultimately lead the service.

The burial is the final stage of the service, and its site depends on the burial tradition of the family or personal liking of the deceased. The burial can take place on a family plot or a graveyard, or if the dead person had wanted a cremation, the ashes can be spread at an appropriate location.
