Having stay in many different types of hotels in many different countries over the years, it was a matter of "poacher turned gamekeeper" when my wife & I took on the running ofa Yorkshire Dales Bed & Breakfast about this time last year.

I always regarded myself as a 'reasonable' guest, rarely complained and let my credit card do the talking by either re booking or otherwise as a sign of my satisfaction with the accommodation & service provided.

If it's clean, the staff are pleasent and the price fits the amenities then use it again, if not keep looking - was a rule that saw me never disappointed more than once, and become a valued repeat customer in many hotels/guest houses.

The standards I expected as a guest are the standards we try to maintain as 'suppliers', and it seems the many years on the road have served as a good proving ground.

We have managed to entice a growing number of new guests to what was a 'slimbering' business, but more importantly we are gettign a good percentage of those back.

There is definitely a market out there of 'serial short breakers', and if you can tap into that rich seam with a producrt they like and you can provide on a consistant basis, then your business will fly.

We are very fortunate to have a unique building ina wonderful part of the country, and that helps get your guests interested in the first place, but it is the service they receive when they are with you that brings them back.

Ours is a part of the world that people are happy to come backl to time & again, and Yorkshire folk in general give visitors a warm welcome, but if you make them feel really special, as if in a 'home from home' then it is not justy the area they will retrurn to, but your place in particular

It's all about the people
