There are basically three overal types of electronic coffee maker Each group has their own pros and cons.

Capsule / Pod Coffee Makers

These are small and often single-serving machines that are easy on resources. The sacrifice is that you must rely on buying coffee in the various capsules. Each manufacturer offers different capsules, which can often be expensive and hard to find. The advantage is they are easy to use.

Manual Coffee Machines

These machines offer the most authentic barista-feeling. Ground coffee must be put into a holder. Then turn the holder into the machine and brewing can begin. You have probably used one of these at one point in your life.

After use, the holder is emptied and washed. Most manual machines can also use the filter bags to simplify the job.

Fully Automatic Coffee Machines

These are smaller versions of the machines found in some cafeterias and eateries. They have an internal computer and some are connected directly to the water line so no filling is needed.

Obviously, these machines require regular emptying of their waste container and cleaning. Popular among coffee houses and restaurants, this is one of the standard commercial machines used by professionals. However, they are becoming more and more popular in the homes of North Americans.

Now that you are familiar with the different kinds of coffee makers it is much less intimidating to choose between the different features. There are so many brands and models out there that alot must be left up to personal preference.
