Each bus will be equipped with a RFID Reader and GPS combo device and each student will be provided with a RFID chip based ID card, with all the student information labelled on it. While RFID reader will read the student ID card and identify the student inside the bus, GPS will be used to locate the bus. This identification data combined with location data from GPS will be sent to the server via GPRS where it will be stored in database for further processing.
This solution will give peace of mind to parents by sending text messages (SMS) on their mobile phones every time the student gets into the bus or alights while going to school from home and vice-versa. It also has an application interface, where one can view not only the real time view of the location of the bus on a map but also the students inside the bus at any given point in time. In addition to this, system can be configured to send specific alerts to parents and school administration. For instance, system can be set up to send an alert to school administration if student exit is not recorded for more than 10 minutes after the vehicle engine off.
In future, the same RFID card can be used as smart card for other functions like, canteen automation, library automation etc.
