Lovecraft's Massachusetts town of Arkham against aliens and monsters to enter through the gates and eventually close these portals. In 2000 other cooperative board games have been published like The Lord of the Rings, Shadows over Camelot, and Pandemic.

Several board games that revolve around words including word search types, crossword puzzle types, bluff word games, and others belong to the word board games genre. Scrabble is the most popular and most played word board game by people from around the world. There has been 29 language versions and has been sold in 121 countries. Each 2-4 players are given letter tiles which have values and are used to form words across and down similar to crossword puzzle on a game board with 15-by-15 grid of cells which only holds one tile. The order of the game is determined before the game starts when each player draws individual letters, the ones closest to the letter A goes first and then the game continues in a sequences manner. The words should conform to and can be found in a typical dictionary of the corresponding language used. Earning the most possible points than the opponent is every players objective of winning. Word board game choices are Acronymble, Alfabet, The Da Vinci Code, and Mumble Jumble.

Childrens board games are created to fit every childs skills and choice because children have inborn intuitions to play. It is a great way to have fun with and get together with the entire family. These types of games would be great methods to promote sportsmanship also good, friendly and healthy competition in children. These games are also useful to eliminate boredom and blues especially on cold winter day, uncooperative weather, and merely staying indoors. Most of childrens board games are simple and requires less reading and counting and most of the time merely based on luck and no need to decide on something. One good example is the Candy Land, one of the first childrens board game which was released in 1949 and is a simple race game. Some choices of childrens board games are the Princess and the Pea, Chutes and Ladders, Pirates on the High, Walt Disneys Peter Pan, Scooby Doo Gold Rush, Sleeping Beauty, Uncle Wiggily, and Snakes and Ladders.

Deductive board games involve logical thinking and intelligence in making judgments from a premise or set of premises. A central mechanic of these games would include deductive reasoning to win the game. There are two extensive categories of deductive board games namely the abstract deductive games which do not follow a theme and the investigation deductive games in which players act out game characters. Mastermind, played by 2 players is an example of abstract deductive board game where one player acts as code maker and the other acts as code breaker. The code maker pins up pegs on the game board in a specific pattern and the objective of the game is for the code breaker to guess the pattern of the colored pegs. On the other hand, an example of investigation games is the Cluedo where it is centered in a murder crime scene where each player portrays a character to find out who did the crime, which weapon was used, and in what room the crime happened. Other games that have the same genre include Black Box, Codam and Mystery Mansion.
