subject: Not Losing Weight Quickly Enough? Tips for Diets That Work Fast [print this page]

One of the most common complaints from dieters is that they aren't reaching their weight loss goals fast enough, and they want tips for diets that work fast. No matter what the goal isbe it 20 pounds or 100 poundsthe scale simply doesn't move fast enough for some dieters.

This gradual shift in weight may come even if the dieters have embraced a healthy lifestyle and are doing everything they should to lose weight quickly. If dieters feel frustrated by the slowness of their weight loss, they should remember these tips:

1. Embrace Every Pound

If the scale isn't moving fast enough, dieters feel frustrated and often refer to their loss in only negative terms. For example, a woman who's been dieting for 3 weeks and experienced a 2 pound weight loss may refer to her success as "only 2 pounds." By verbally mitigating this success, dieters are performing self-sabotage.

Instead, celebrate and look on every pound lost as one more step to the ultimate weight loss goal. If the dieter is doing everything right, that is a permanent pound lost that will not creep back over time.

Also, keep in mind that one pound is a lot of weight. For a visual encouragement, look at a box of butter when you go to the grocery store. Each box, containing 4 sticks, weighs a pound. A 2 pound weight loss is 2 boxes of buttera lot of weight!

2. Watch Your Measurements

Often dieters are so obsessed with weight that they neglect to check their measurements. However, it's essential that you take stock of the overall condition of one's body when dieting.

How do clothes fit? How does your reflection look in the mirror? Do you feel better and have more energy? Keep in mind that a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat, but that a pound of fat takes up to 3 times as much room in the body.

So if you're gaining muscle, your weight loss may not seem as drastic as you wish, but you will be getting more toned, lean, and fit in the process. Eventually, your metabolism will speed up as you put on muscle, which will also speed weight loss.

3. Choose Strength Training

When in doubt, choose strength training over cardio for a more effective workout that will boost your metabolism. Many dieters have very little time to make it to the gym. Even when they do make it, they can't afford to spend hours on the treadmill.

If your time is so limited that you have to make a choice, opt for a weight-bearing workout that will help you build your metabolism and lean muscle mass. In addition, if you can sneak in interval training a few times a week, you will see a change in your body much more quickly than you do with traditional cardio.

So rather than try to work out a lot to speed up weight loss, try working out smart. You'll feel better and have more time to spend on doing fun things! Diets that work fast generally don't have the same long-term health benefits that a good strength training routine can provide.
