subject: Job Interview Do's And Don'ts [print this page]

Getting a job interview can be enjoyable but also stressful. Making a good first impression can be challenging and the most difficult thing about it is that you only really have a few moments to prove yourself before you're either hired, or before you're back to the beginning again looking for a job.

Job Interview Dos:

You do want to make sure you dress professionally whenever you are going to visit the company. Your appearance actually gives the HR manager a message without you having to say a thing at all.

You should always be sure to learn more about the company and its mission. You will be amazed at how many interviews always get the question about what do you know about the company, and how not well these questions get answered.

Another easy to do thing you may want to do is show up to the job interview early.

Job Interview Don'ts:

Of course the main tip that's given to anyone is to not show up late for an interview. If you do, you've more than likely not only just wiped out your chances of getting hired, but you also will have to prove yourself 10 times harder as to why you should get the job compared to the other candidates that arrived - on time.

Try not to act like you're totally perfect. Nobody is perfect and we have all made mistakes sometime in our lives.

Don't eat anything that's going to leave a bad taste in your mouth. If you really need to eat something, try something light such as french fries as they really don't leave that much of a bad breath. Always double check you have everything you need before leaving your car.

Don't forget your resume and always bring a pen as you will most likely need to sign some documents if you get hired.
